‘The One Ring’ now available from Weta

Weta has released the next piece in their new Lord of the Rings jewelry line – The One Ring.

The One Ring was featured in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and was created by Jens Hansen – Gold and Silversmith of Nelson, New Zealand.

The ring is crafted in 18K gold plated Tungsten Carbide and made to the exact same proportions as the movie prop. The ring verse in Elvish tengwar is engraved on the outside and inside of the ring. The ring comes nestled inside a blue velvet-lined round walnut wood box that also features the ring script around the outside. The Lord of the Rings logo is featured on the outside lid of the box, with the Weta logo and Jens Hansen’s signature on the inside.

The One Ring comes in 5 sizes – US 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 – and buyers need to be aware that Tungsten cannot be resized so care is needed when ordering to assure they have picked the correct size. The ring is only USD$99 and ships direct from New Zealand.

Another item that Weta is offering to accompany The One Ring is a replica of the silver chain given to Frodo in Rivendell to hold the ring.

The Sterling Silver Chain of Frodo Baggins is 25 inches (65 cm) long, crafted in Sterling Silver and features a unique S-shaped clasp, allowing the wearing to adjust the chain to any length they wish. The chain is USD$99 and is also the created by Jens Hansen.

As with the Elven Leaf Brooch, both The One Ring and the Sterling Silver Chain of Frodo Baggins will be offered in small numbers. Buyers are urged to order sooner, rather than later, to assure they don’t miss out.

The folks over at Weta have announced that they are launching a new line of fine Lord of the Rings jewelry.

The first piece to be offered is a replica of the Elven Leaf Brooch that was given to each member of the  Fellowship by Galadriel and Celeborn in Lothlórien.

Crafted in Sterling Silver with green enamel inlay, the brooch measures 2.6″ x 1.8″ x 0.3″ [ 6.5cm x 4.5cm x 8mm] (H x W x D) and comes with a Sterling Silver chain that will allow the brooch to be worn as a pendant.

The brooch comes nestled inside a drawstring pouch made of Stansborough wool cloth, the same material that the Fellowship’s cloaks were made of, and measures 5.5 x 3.5in / 14 cm x 8.5 cm.

Weta has said that each fine jewelry piece they will be releasing will be in small numbers, so collectors are urged to get their orders in as soon as possible.

The Weta Elven Leaf Brooch may only be for the very serious collector, however, as the piece comes with a hefty price tag of USD$225!

Fans/collectors may also remember another Elven Leaf Brooch replica released by The Noble Collection when the Lord of the Rings films were still in theaters. Noble’s version of the brooch is also crafted in Sterling Silver with green enamel inlay but does not come with a Sterling Silver chain or wool pouch. The brooch comes in a plain white jewelry box with a card of authenticity and is still available through their website at only USD$95.

I have Noble’s version of the brooch and am quite pleased with the craftsmanship. Is the Weta piece better? Probably, knowing that Weta is the same group responsible for all the fabulous props seen in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and will be seen in the upcoming The Hobbit films. The presentation of the Weta brooch is certainly better than Noble’s.

If presentation is as important to you as the craftsmanship of the piece, then I would say the Weta Elven Leaf Brooch is the one you want. If all you want is the brooch, order the one from Noble.
