'The Hobbit' in Irish - 'An Hobad' as Gaeilge

I bpoll sa talamh a bhí cónaí ar hobad.

That is how the famous first line ( “In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit“) of JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit will read in the Gaelic version of the book that is in the works by translator Nicolas Williams. Williams has translated other classics such as Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-glass and What Alice Found There both by Lewis Carroll.

The full title of the Gaelic version of The Hobbit is An Hobad, nó Anonn agus Ar Ais Arís. The book is being published by Evertype Publishing in, Westport, County Mayo, Ireland and will be released on March 25th. The book will contain Tolkien’s original illustrations.
